Media Advisory: North Howard Street Ramp Closure


Akron, OH – Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker, PE, PS would like to alert residents and motorists of the upcoming closure of the North Howard Street Ramp to North Main Street. The bridge on North Main Street over the Howard Street Ramp is being removed and will be replaced with at-grade embankment. The closure will begin on April 1, 2019.

The current North Main Street Bridge over the Howard Street Ramp was built in 1947 and is structurally deficient. The design-build contract was awarded to Kenmore Construction and is being designed by Osborn Engineering. One lane of traffic in each direction on North Main Street will be maintained throughout the 90 day project.

Motorists on North Howard Street can access North Main Street using Medford Avenue, Creston Avenue, Iuka Avenue, East Lowell Avenue, East Burns Avenue, East Salome Avenue, and East Mildred Avenue.
