11th Annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition

The 11th Annual Summit County Engineer Miniature Bridge Building Competition is scheduled to be held on January 28, 2011, at the University of Akron. This competition requires the application of math, science, physics and other academic skills to a basic component of civil engineering – bridge design and building.

Walsh Jesuit wins both top prizes at 10th Annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition (U of A)

Akron, Ohio – Alan Brubaker, P.E., P.S., Summit County Engineer, hosted the 10th Annual Miniature Bridge Building Competition on January 29, 2010 in the Student Union at the University of Akron.  The two teams from Walsh Jesuit earned first and second place. Thirty-seven teams from area high schools built miniature bridges of their own designs, made out of balsa wood and according to strict guidelines.

Summit County Engineer receives funding for Akron-Peninsula Road

Akron, Ohio – The Department of Transportation and 13th District Congresswoman Betty Sutton’s office announced today that the Summit County Engineer’s office will receive $475,000 for Akron-Peninsula Road in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  This money comes from the Department of Transportation’s Public Lands Highway grant funds.  The funds will be used to restore Akron-Peninsula Road and to improve accessibility to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Ohio & Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor.
