Summit County Engineer's 2019 Annual Report
Apr 16, 2020 - Akron, OH
In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code Section 5543.02, we respectfully submit the Summit County Engineer's (SCE) annual report for the year 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting reduced staff, this is a slightly abbreviated report. This report will be updated with additional information as employees can report back to work and provide the necessary information. This report reviews the activities of this Office for 2019, highlighting major infrastructure improvement projects and the maintenance of our existing infrastructure. The office continues to be an active partner with the townships, cities, and villages in their efforts to update and improve local infrastructure systems.
Our primary sources of revenue are license taxes and gasoline taxes. In 2019, tax revenue was approximately $18.9 million, a 16% increase from the previous year. In 2019, capital expenses were approximately $8.5 million, an increase of $2.6 million from the previous year. This increases are due to the increased revenues from the state of Ohio gas tax increase as well as additional $5 fee license fee increase from 2017.
2019 was our eleventh year in office and we had many successes. The County adopted a Surface Water Management Program in 2017 and 2019 was the first full year of the implemented program for Bath Township. SCE was able to expand our capital program and begin rehabilitating and replacing some of the County’s aging bridges.
