Public Notice: Proposed Christman Road Bridge over Nimisila Reservoir Replacement Project
Seeking public comments
Jun 3, 2022 - Green, OH
The Summit County Engineer, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), proposes to replace the structurally deficient, load posted single span prestressed concrete box beam structure over Nimisila Reservoir within the Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park with an entirely new structure. Existing bridge foundations and abutment walls will be removed as needed for construction of the new bridge. A composite concrete deck with curbs / parapets will be constructed along with a 12 feet wide shoulder (separated by a concrete barrier) on the west side of the bridge to accommodate fishing and a future multi-purpose trail to be constructed by the City of Green in a totally separate project.
To accommodate bridge replacement and especially the addition of the above-mentioned 12 feet wide shoulder, additional right-of-way (ROW) in the form of a standard highway easement will be required both immediately west and east of the existing 60-foot ROW for Christman Road at the bridge. This will consist of 0.139 acre west of the bridge and 0.049 acre east of the bridge. Most of the ROW acquisition will consist of the open water of Nimisila Reservoir. Construction of the bridge replacement is expected to start in July 2023 and take approximately five months. There will be no permanent adverse effects to the protected recreational activities, features, or attributes associated with Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park.
The Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park, owned by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and managed by Summit Metro Parks, is a recognized recreational property, and is provided protection from adverse impacts associated with federal-aid transportation projects.
The Summit County Engineer consulted with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Summit Metro Parks in regard to project impacts and received concurrence that the project will not adversely affect the recreational activities, features or attributes that qualify the property for protection.
Due to the permanent acquisition of land from the Nimisila Reservoir Metro Park, the Summit County Engineer is seeking public input regarding the proposed impacts. Please provide comments to Joe Paradise at 330-643-8105 or jparadise@summitengineer.net. Comments must be received by July 8, 2022.
