Public Notice: Ira Road Bridge Replacement

The Summit County Engineer’s Office, in partnership with The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is proposing to remove and replace the existing culvert carrying Ira Rd (CR 46) over the North Fork of Yellow Creek in Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio. The bridge is located approximately 0.65-mile east of N Hametown Rd (CR 253).
The existing triple pipe culvert was built in 1959 and will be replaced with a precast concrete box culvert. Minor right-of-way acquisition is anticipated for the project. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2024 and may require the closure of Ira Road for up to 75 days.
The proposed bridge replacement operations will require closure of Ira Rd at the North Fork of Yellow Creek for a period not to exceed 75 days. Traffic will be detoured utilizing Cleveland Massillon Rd (CR 17) to Everett Rd (CR 47) to Hametown Rd (CR 253). Detour information will be posted in advance of the bridge closure. Access shall be maintained to all adjacent properties for the duration of the project. Substantial traffic disruptions are not expected with the project.
The project area will involve coordination with Bath Nature Preserve located at the southwest corner of the project area. This resource is designated as a public recreational property and is afforded protection under federal law. As such, measures to minimize harm will be implemented and advanced public notice will be given to this recreational property. Impacts to Bath Nature Preserve include the following:
- Closure of the entrance to the North Fork Trail from Ira Rd to maintain the safety of trail users. The entrance to the North Fork Trail at Ira Rd will be restricted for the duration of the roadway closure Users of the trailhead will be detoured to the Ira Rd parking lot entrance, located approximately 600 feet west of the pedestrian trailhead.
- Permanent right-of-way will be required from the Bath Nature Preserve to complete construction activities at the culvert.
The project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources. The Summit County Engineer’s Office is requesting that any comments you may have regarding the proposed project and/or environmental impacts be submitted by November 14, 2022 to:
