Summit County Engineer’s Office Announces Snyder Avenue Bridge Replacement

Construction Planned for 2024

Oct 13, 2022 - Barberton, OH

The Summit County Engineer’s Office, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is proposing to remove and replace the existing bridge carrying Snyder Avenue (MR 3/CR 65) over the Tuscarawas River in the city of Barberton, Summit County, Ohio. The bridge is located approximately 0.25-mile west of Van Buren Road (CR 60).

The existing concrete box beam bridge was built in 1920 and reconstructed in 1963. The project is in preliminary development and the replacement structure is being designed to avoid impacts to surrounding private properties and minimize impacts to the Tuscarawas River.
Minor right-of-way acquisition is anticipated for the project. Design work is expected to begin in 2023. Construction work is expected to begin in Spring of 2024 and to be completed by October 2024.

The proposed bridge replacement operations will require closure of Snyder Avenue at the Tuscarawas River for a period not to exceed 8 months. Traffic will be detoured utilizing Van Buren Road (CR 60), Robinson Avenue (CR 54), Wooster Road (CR 96) and Hudson Run (CR 65). Detour information will be posted in advance of the bridge closure. Access shall be maintained to all adjacent properties for the duration of the project. Substantial traffic disruptions are not expected with the project.

The project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources. The Summit County Engineer’s Office is requesting that any comments you may have regarding the proposed project and/or environmental impacts be submitted by November 10, 2022 to:
